Imp Designs Receives PAT Board of Directors Award of Recognition
Dec 7, 2009“The Partnerships in Assistive Technology Board of Directors would like to recognize Imp Designs, LLC for their generous contribution of staff time, innovation and ingenuity in the design and implementation of PAT’s new web site: www.pat.org. Their generosity and creativity allowed us for the first time to provide registration forms and session information to our participants and to recognize our Sponsors and Exhibitors. It also allows us to host the Assistive Technology Exchange Post that allows users to post used assistive technology equipment for sale or equipment they need. The web site was created using ExpressionEngine which allows PAT staff the ability to easily update the site when needed. They also created mailing lists for us so that we can easily provide information about the AT Expo and other assistive technology related news to our participants, exhibitors and sponsors. Their knowledge of web accessibility issues is extensive and they were responsive to PAT’s need to have a fully accessible site.”
That’s the official announcement that was printed in the official program for the 19th Annual North Carolina Assistive Technology Expo. To be honest, when Executive Director Sonya Van Horn called to tell me we were going to receive this award I was very uncomfortable with the idea. We didn’t donate our work to get an award; we donated our time because this amazing organization needed our expertise much in the same way that the individuals they help need theirs. The Partnership for Assistive Technology is dedicated to increasing access to assistive technology and information technology for North Carolinians with disabilities through training, equipment recycling, advocacy, and technical assistance. It’s a little ironic that this fine organization, so dedicated to using technology to aid the disabled, was unable to use web technologies to advance and promote their works.
I’ve gotten over my initial reservations about the award. In the end, I’d rather have this one award than a wall full of webbys or addys. We are honored and humbled by PAT’s display of appreciation and hope that our work enables them to grow and continue to expand their services to all those who need them.
