Leads Group One Website
Jan 2, 2007In March of 2006 my business attorney, Ralph Dileone, invited me to join the Capital City Club. One of the three leads groups at the club had recently lost their web developer and Ralph thought it would be a good opportunity for me to make some contacts. After I got past the feeling once voiced by Groucho Marx, who famously stated he could never participate in a club that would have him as a member, I visited the club a few times. To my surprise I didn’t meet a single snooty Thurston Howell type. No, the group was just a bunch of businessmen trying to make connections and share their respective expertise with others. And they needed a website! A perfect chance for us to show off a bit and contribute to the group.
Designer Brian Herring put together the database structure and created the first version of the website. Soon after the site was launched, I met group member Ray Emery of Emery Advertising, and he shared his firm’s design for a brochure for the group. Using the brochure as a guide, I reworked the graphic appearance of the site to reflect the look of the brochure.
The site is an ExpressionEngine install with four “weblogs.” One manages the introductory page content, one manages news, one manages the calendar and the final weblog contains all the member information. Each group member has a login and can edit the information about their business. The site also has a communications module which allows the members to send emails to the group.
