Redesign of Wake County Recycling Guide

Jun 2, 2006
written by Chris Basnight | placed in projects

We were contacted by the Wake County Environmental Services Solid Waste Management Division to develop an easy-to-use guide to the recycling and disposal services available for the citizens of Wake County, North Carolina. We started the project by examining the existing brochure and meeting with staff to determine the scope of information the brochure needed to communicate. After learning the ins and outs of Wake County’s recycling and disposal services, we suggested a more compact format, a slight reorganization of the content, and a redesigned chart of services.

Once we had a general agreement on the format, we met with our print vendor to determine the most efficient sizing for their press sheet. This pre-planning allowed us to maximize the print budget and helped reduce the printer’s turn time. The project also required a percentage of the brochures to be translated to spanish. Our translation service, Spanglish Unlimited, quickly supplied us with the alternate text and we created the spanish version. We were able to bring the project in on budget despite a change to the format and an increase in the print quantity.
